I spy…two little brats!

It seems that Bones is sticking to the manga with the second episode of Fullmetal Alchemist, and I’ve got to hand it to them for doing a nice job of it. The animation’s consistency, the excellent way they portrayed an scarred Edward after his failed human transmutation attempt, and the plain creepiness of his trip to and through the ‘Door of Truth’ continues to make an impression on how I see where the season is going. K-On Episode 2 ~ Rich Girls Sure Come In Handy

So we finally embark on our second episode of K-On and I’ve to one conclusion: Yui is undoubtably the most air headed girl I’ve ever encountered. In a way it’s cute, but it’s kind of irking me a little bit too. Apart from that I’ve grown quite fond of the characters and find the way they fit in line with one another to be fun to watch and amusing to follow. (more…)

First Impressions: Spring Line Up (Everything Else)

It was only today that I realized that my backlog had grown to a point where I couldn’t possibly watch everything and do a full analysis for each everyday. Not enough time to watch anime, too many things to do at home, and some major assignments coming up say much about my ability to cope. So after marathoning through the below series, I’ve come up with a schedule for what I’ll be following this season. Of course, this will still include Hetalia and Chrome Shelled Regios, both of which are still going strong and will continue for a while at least. (more…)

The Humanity!

This episode spends a lot more time on the historical aspects of Italy’s history rather than diving into post World War 2 as it might have seemed to be from previous episodes. It is a welcome change though, away from the tedium that is the Axis and Allies, and more into the what had happened before during Italy’s childhood, especially with the portrayal of and foreshadowed demise of the Holy Roman Empire, as cute as he may look. First Impressions: Tears to Tiara Episode 1

Having played a few hours of the original PC game by Aquaplus, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the animation quality and the story progression of this episode. It wasn’t exactly the most original of games, with particularly long-winded speeches and some annoying character dialogue really putting me off from continuing further with it, but they’ve done quite a good job adapting it into a series that’s both watchable and doesn’t seem too irritating to the ears. That’s got to hurt.

Well, I didn’t really that many expectations in the first place when I decided to watch Pandora Hearts. It’s good to see those expectations were right. While the trailer did grab my attention initially, I didn’t really think that it looked as good as it could have been, and the actual episode itself caught me off guard with a distinct lack of animation quality. How dare you forget about me!

It has been a while since I’ve last seen the original Full Metal Alchemist series, and just watching this episode brings me back. A lot of familiar faces make their appearances and we’re thrown straight into the action even before we hit the second episode already. While it might seem a bit fast paced for those unfamiliar with the original story, it still does well to create the sense of urgency and mystery that pervaded the first series, with the standard ‘poking fun at Edward’s height’ gags making their long lost comeback. Huh…I forgot something…

I know I’m quite behind with a number of series and with the new season already heating up, I’m finding little time to catch up with the rest. I’m not quite sure yet if I’m cutting Mariaholic and The Girl Who Leapt Through Space short, but it seems that with following all of the series I am now, I don’t think I’ll have time to cover everything in proper. Add that to my major project coming up next week, and I’m pretty short of time as it is. I guess it depends on whether I can survive with less than 5 hours sleep a day, which I admit can be done (though I might not be so alert as a result). (more…)

First Impressions: Queens Blade Episode 1

Time to wake up and smell the flowers.

My first thoughts were ‘There sure are a lot of breasts and nipples in this…’. And after watching through it, I can say that this series surely thrives on this overexposure of cleavage. Nothing really catches the eyes more than an over abundance of skin and the threadbare makings of a proper plot. (more…)
