First Impressions: Spring Line Up (Everything Else)
It was only today that I realized that my backlog had grown to a point where I couldn’t possibly watch everything and do a full analysis for each everyday. Not enough time to watch anime, too many things to do at home, and some major assignments coming up say much about my ability to cope. So after marathoning through the below series, I’ve come up with a schedule for what I’ll be following this season. Of course, this will still include Hetalia and Chrome Shelled Regios, both of which are still going strong and will continue for a while at least. So without further ado:
07-Ghost
Time to imprint this ‘Noob’ brand on your forehead!
Not really that bad though I’m rather at odds with the great number of bishounen introduced in the series already. Some weird colours here and there and pretty normal animation, but I like the way they animated the runic magic system used. Music was nothing special though. Chances of following: Medium.
Hayate no Gotoku 2
Has Nagi finally realized that Hayate is a lolicon?
Same as the last season pretty much. Not really that interested in it since I’ve read the manga already. The qualities not much different from the previous season. Chances of following: Low.
Hanasakeru Seishounen
Probably one of the few scenes with decent animation.
Pretty terrible animation and the premise sounds pretty boring to say the least. Nothing particularly noteworthy here. Chances of following: Low.
Tayutama
Nothing new here.
This series strikes me as somewhat rushed, with an animation quality that certainly needs to be reconsidered. Not really original either, and the stereotyped character designs had be growning in despair. Not something I’m enamoured of unfortunately. Chances of following: Low.
Polyphonica 2
OSTs made easy.
Much better than first series indeed. While there’s still some parts where the animation becomes inconsistent, the overall production is good. The music is pretty nice too, though the opening theme isn’t anything grand. I just hope the school-life plot isn’t too repetitive. Chances of following: Medium.
Eden of the East
The white blur is indeed part of the episde.
Probably one of the better series this season. Excellent production value, animation is crisp, the story is interesting and takes off from the very start and some rather unique characters already (no more emo amnesiacs this time!). The opening and ending themes were also very well done - they obviously put effort into both the animation and the music that accompanies it. Chances of following: High.
Guin Saga
King from Tekken makes his anime debut!
I thought it looked good from the trailer. I was sorely disappointed with the outcome. While it’s not bad or anything, animation wise at least, there seems to be a lack of believability in the plot and how some characters act (I mean…ninja knights of all things!). Guin is still pretty awesome, as he single handedly wipes out everything that comes near him. But I’m still not quite sure I like how the story is going to progress. Chances of following: Medium.
Valkyria Chronicles
That isn’t a gun. THIS is a gun.
More than I expected really. Having not played the game before, I didn’t really know what to think of something that looked less militaristic and more ‘homey’. Perhaps it was the uniforms? Regardless, the animation quality is certainly smooth and well done, and the music certainly nice to listen to. As to the plot, while it certainly takes some time to get moving, I’m more worried as to how the adaption from game to animation is going to be. Hopefully, we don’t get another Tales of the Abyss. Chances of following: High.
Saki
Fuga!
It’s Mahjong. A game I have interest in and little idea about. That being said, the whole concept seems to be pretty much the same as some other ’sport’ anime, many of them way cooler in terms of what they do (perhaps I read too much shounen…). It still has its charms - a veritable slew of girls and one random boy on their way to top of the Mahjong playing world. Apart from that I don’t think it really appeals me all that much, with just normal animation and music to pave the way. Chances of following: Low.
