Hetalia Episode 11 ~ The Fate Of The Holy Roman Empire Is Within Your Hands, Italy!
The Humanity!
This episode spends a lot more time on the historical aspects of Italy’s history rather than diving into post World War 2 as it might have seemed to be from previous episodes. It is a welcome change though, away from the tedium that is the Axis and Allies, and more into the what had happened before during Italy’s childhood, especially with the portrayal of and foreshadowed demise of the Holy Roman Empire, as cute as he may look.
Seems Rome met the same end trying to be big as well…
Starting from where the last episode left off, the Holy Roman Empire household is immediately faced with the problem of a mass exodus of it’s members, leaving only Austria, Hungary and Italy there. Looking at history itself, this is fairly reminiscent of the decline of the Holy Roman Empire after its reformation. Rebellions and civil wars did nothing to help hold the empire together after all that. That’s exactly the reason why Italy refused the Holy Roman Empire’s suggestion to together forge the Roman Empire once more. Not to mention the fact that Austria was getting emotional and all. At the very least, he manages to outlive the Holy Roman Empire…until World War 2 that is.
Super useless…
The other part of the episode brings us back to present day World War 2. We now know that England is highly delusional and has his own contingent of fairy tale creatures that he interacts with quite realistically. America unfortunately comes across this and who knows what he thinks of the situation. No wonder he took over the campaigns later on in the war. England’s capacity to think rationally was called into question (though it probably wasn’t that bad but still…). There’s also a little part with Italy wanting a hug from Germany, only to have to reach up to a point where he sprains his ankles. A height difference of 8cm is quite a lot it seems. The message on the other hand…it’s hard to tell.
And once again France pops the question to England. Few words can be said: What a weirdo. Even the ending agrees with me!
