Dead and loving it?

I’m getting really behind on my watching lately. Just like a life comedy, my current schedule has become somewhat of an episodic parody of eating, studying and sleeping, not necessarily in that order. Not quite sure where the humour lies though. Most likely it remains non-existent.

So we come back to Haruhi-chan, back to the randomness that defines this short series, back to never ending Nagato and her ero-gaming. That’s probably the main defining moment for me so far in the entire series. So far anyway.

What an eye full!

Nagato’s obsession with ero-games takes a step further in epsiode 4. It suddenly evolves to cosplaying as well. Mikuru get’s a shock at the sudden increase in her costume stockpile as a result. Even the bookshelves are gradually taken over by an increasing amount of gaming paraphernalia. It kind of reminds me of my own bookshelves. Sigh.

Asakura Ryoko’s return is also somewhat unprecedented. In chibi-from at least. Nagato’s treatment of her as a pet though…how many times have we seen something small and cute and suddenly had the urge to yell ‘I’m taking you home!’ and snatch it away? Twice so far for me.

The Lance of Longinus - Haruhi Style.

Episode 5 is our dodgeball spectacular, with the Computing Society coming back for revenge. The stakes - a mummified Kappa or their laptops back. Haruhi’s data altering capabilities makes it a battle between super-humans…but even then, the outcome is that the SOS Brigade comes up tops. They give the prize back to the Computing Society in the end.

I’m come to expect something refreshing every time I watch Haruhi-chan. So far so good too. Even if the animation hasn’t really changed much, it’s focus on absurd comedy is still good as ever. Even the little culture knacks are fun to see when applied to the endearing logic of Nagato, Koizumi’s continuous happiness, and Mikuru’s tendency to cry out weirdly (and in such a way as to make it laughable). I wonder if Kyon will ever stand up to Haruhi - even after all that he’s been though, it still takes it like a man. Or is it a somewhat masochistic mindset that makes him so acceptable?
