The Girl who Leapt Through Space Episode 5 ~ The Self-Praising Shiritori Game

This’ll give the Necronomicon a run for it’s money!

So our mystery runs a little deeper this episode as we ask ourselves about how Akiha and Leopard are connected, how Kannagi’s past is tied with the colony itself and whether Bouganvillae and Mintao named their QT-Arms mecha themselves (because, seriously, they need more creative names). I’ve still got to hand it to Sunrise and their creation of the Leopardnomicon…simply because it’s like building a Gundam from scratch. Find more parts, add them and before you know it, you have a Strike Freedom Gundam! I wonder though…is the need for ‘Golden Orb Warmers’ pointing towards Leopard being personally insecure about his manliness? You can check out the weird going-ons this episode here in the gallery.

Imo has that look of someone’s staring down something completely unworthy of existing (Poor Leopard :P)

We begin off again where we left off last episode - Honoka is flipping through the ‘Build Leopard to Become a True Man’ manual when Akiha comes in and kicks Leopard in the face for attempting to strip her naked. It’s sad to see the pride of a AI Colony get completely smashed by a girl not yet 18, which Akiha does, sending Leopard into a tantrum and forbidding her to return…’He’s a sore loser’ is all I can say. With this Akiha returns to school and her normal life, but only realises that it’s completely boring without the excitement of almost being caught when she was with Leopard. She also dreams of the mysterious woman from the first episode, who is playing the game of Self-Praising Shiritori that Leopard himself is attempting…we can definitely see some sort of connection here as Honoka mentions that ’she’ is no longer there when Leopard wants her to join him in his failed self appraisal exercises. Maybe our red haired mystery girl was his former ‘Queen’? Just speculations again I guess.

The Min-Tiger…*groans*

Akiha is shortly abducted by Kannagi again, with our green-haired ghost needing to talk to Leopard. He apparently has ties with her past as it seems to be him that appears as a gigantic silhouette amongst a snow storm in her memories. Our amazingly resilient ninjas Bouganvillae and Mintao also make a return, this time tracking Kannagi down to the intent of destroying her. Their QT-Arms on the other hand….even if it’s kind of cool that they can split up, they should really have given them better titles and transformation sounds (I mean ‘Min-Tiger Gao!’….it makes sense, but sounds awfully lame). It’s when Akiha gets into trouble that Leopard makes a return, and with his help, they send out villainous duo bouncing back into space. End of story. Oh. And Kannagi get’s dragged into the next mission as payment for the information she’s looking for. She knows she’s going to get into trouble for it too.

Takane - our sword wielding elder sister.

We’re also introduced to Akiha’s older sister, Takane, this episode. She’s tracking an ex-QT-Arms, Aleida, as well as her abducted younger sister Sakura, on the moon, but gets captured as a result of an ambush. All the sisters are special in their own ways - ‘Curly’ is running the family conglomerate, Takane travels and explores in space, Nami is taking a break from her modeling career and the youngest, Sakura, is a loli with a PhD - and because of this, Akiha feels useless since she has no achievements of her own to boast of.

That’s a lot of sisters…

There are also talks about Nerval and the Nervalists. This name was mentioned way back in episode 3 when they were retrieving Leopards balls, and I can’t help but wonder its/his/their role is in the series. I’m assuming his that weird piece of junk in the opening behind Aleida. As to what it is though…I can only assume it’s another Brain Colony AI from its ball-like appearance. Well, we’ll find out next episode as our heroines head to the St. Artemis prison facility and their reunion with their sisters there.
