Kannagi Episode 13 ~ The End is Nigh
And so we arrive at the end of Kannagi. Overall the series was impressive, well animated, and had a good storyline to follow. But what’s more is the evidence of subtle and over-the-top humor that has pervaded the series. I must admit, I’ve had some great laughs at how Nagi adjusts to society and her antiques there within. But underlying all of this is something more serious and dark - maybe it’s just me but series with lighthearted gestures alongside serious questions are those that i enjoy most.
At any rate, we open up the episode with Nagi having run away from Jin and currently staying over at the place he visited last episode - while he, on the otherhand, continues to be downcast and moody until Tsugumi gets him out of the rut and prompts him to continue looking for Nagi. He’s suddenly inspired (*coughs*) and runs off without knowing where to go until she rings him again. Surprise, surprise - Wikipedia to the rescue! Not really, but the net sure comes in handy. I’m more surprised that Jin doesn’t have a computer - especially in this time and era. In any case, he finds Nagi eventually and they make up - they are visited by the spirit of the old grandmother last episode who tells Jin about her history and how Nagi had saved her all those years ago before departing for the after life. Nagi confesses in the end that she doesn’t know the truth and Jin accepts that - all is resolved. Or is it?
Well, what’s Kannagi without some incredibly stupid and hilarious events - in the end when they get home Nagi showers, conveniently forgets her towel, runs into Jin who then falls on top of her. That’s not the best part - Tsugumi enters….and we’re treated to some awkward silence as she snaps (not Higurashi snaps though - that would be very bloody indeed). Nagi then proceeds to beats Jin up - check it out here. A satisfying end i must say.
So there you have it - the 13 episode series of Kannagi is at it’s end. A good series to end the 2008 year with and a standard to all proceeding anime to come (to me at least). Now i can start watching other stuff! Yippee!
